this beast was fabricated with the rusted and twisted remains of:
-paper clips -guitar strings -a light bulb -2 red leds -bits of wire -thread -bits of cloth -and (i do believe) a needle or two.
his environment is made from:
-acrylic paint on canvas (i was going for that traditional matte-painted skyline that you don't see in movies anymore) -paper -more acrylic paint -egg cartons -a kitty food can -and a paper bag.
this finished piece as submitted involves: -sculpture/physical construction/electric wiring -acrylic painting -photography -slight manipulation of colors in photoshop
this is the first angle submission. the other can be found here: [link]
EDIT:
Thank you so much to deviantART and Focus Features for making this contest happen. Also congratulations to 1st and 2nd place, there were so many beautiful entries!!
and also, thank you Shane Acker for this!:
" I love this creature's design and I love that it is hand made. The artist really put the whole package together, from the creature to the set and even the backdrop. Even though it is composed of man made parts it feels very organic which makes it unique. If I was 9 and I saw this thing coming over the hill at me I'd definitely wet my burlap! " - Shane Acker, Director
I remember seeing this back when the contest was running. What a wonderful piece. Elegant and dangerous, this creature is everything a mechanical squid-on-land should be!
Great construct! It's surprisingly cute XD Really love how you've done the background too. Is that paper it's walking on? It looks so much like real rock
the design is amazing! congratulations!
